Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a passionate individual to help build relationships with parents who have diagnosed mental health difficulties and support their relationship with infants aged birth to 36 months.
Family Support Practitioners use a strengths-based and child-focused approach by performing home visits and co-facilitating Parent-Infant Attachment Groups, to provide an early intervention service to families with children where post-natal depression or complex mental health issues impact family functioning.
What can you expect to be doing?
- Undertake a family-centred assessment that employs child-focused practice and principles
- Educating and developing the skills of parents including nutrition, financial and household management skills
- Advocate for families and connecting families with the supportive services and resources they need to improve their parenting abilities and achieve a nurturing and stable family environment
- Operate with a strengths-based approach considering the needs and strengths of individuals within the context of their family, social networks and community
- Use your excellent communication skills to engage and establish rapport with families from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
What do you need to bring?
- Certificate IV in Mental Health (non-clinical or equivalent) qualification
- A sound understanding of complex social problems and their impact on individuals and communities
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience and knowledge in developing and delivering group work practice
